How To Get Into The Right Mindset For Healthy, Permanent Weight Loss
Can you really lose weight easily and keep it off while staying healthy, enjoying your food, and not going hungry? If you’re one of the many people who have tried diet after diet, only to end up fatter than you were to begin with, this might sound like a pipe dream. But it’s actually quite easy to achieve, if you go about it in the right way.
We’ll look at how you can lose weight and keep it off without going hungry or subjecting yourself to yet another diet a bit later in the article. But first of all, let’s take a brief look at why most people don’t manage to reach their weight loss goals, so you know the mistakes to avoid.
Why People Can’t Lose Weight – Most Of The Time
You may already know that about 95% of dieters fail to keep off the weight they lose – and the multi-billion dollar diet industry makes a very handsome profit from their failure. Why is this?
Well, there are various reasons why diets don’t work. Here are the most common:
People choose unsustainable diets – yes, living on boiled eggs and cabbage for a week or two will make you lose weight, but it’s obvious that nobody’s going to be able to eat that way for very long (nor would it be healthy to try). This is an extreme example, but many more mainstream diets fall into this category too – they’re simply too restrictive and unenjoyable to keep up for long, so the weight goes back on as soon as the dieter resumes normal eating patterns. In order to keep the weight off, you need to find a way of eating that you can sustain for life.
People don’t exercise – you can lose weight without exercising, but exercise makes it much easier to burn fat and keep it off, both by increasing the number of calories you use, and by creating lean muscle tissue, which in itself uses more calories even when you’re at rest. It also makes you feel happier and more energetic, decreasing the risk of overeating. For long term weight loss, exercise is pretty much essential, unless you want to spend your whole life watching every mouthful you eat.
People are malnourished – it might sound odd, since we tend to associated malnutrition with starvation, but it’s possible to be overweight and lacking in essential nutrients. If someone lives on the junk food that is unfortunately regarded as the ‘normal’ diet in this society, it’s very easy to take in too many calories yet still be lacking in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The body will then crave more food in an effort to get what it needs, leading to even more calories being eaten – and so the weight just piles on. It is practically impossible to lose weight, keep it off and remain healthy without making a switch to a more natural, unprocessed diet of nourishing foods.
People have psychological issues around food, weight and body image – although full blown eating disorders are not the norm, very large numbers of people still suffer from some type of ‘food issues’. Some may overeat in an effort to compensate for stress or to avoid facing up to other problems in their lives, or may subconsciously sabotage their weight loss efforts because they have limiting beliefs about their ability or right to be lean and healthy.
So, it’s now obvious that to lose weight healthily and remain slim, it’s important to make long term changes, and to eat a healthy diet that you can sustain for life, as well as taking some exercise and addressing any issues you may have that are causing you to sabotage your own progress.
This can be easier said than done however – its one thing to know what you should do, and other to actually put it into practice. Why is this? It’s because there is one other factor that influences all these other steps, and which is central to the success of any weight loss plan, and that factor is your mind. If your mind is working against you, you won’t succeed.
Getting Into The Right Mindset For Weight Loss
Many people find themselves resisting a healthy balanced diet. They resist taking exercise. And they resist changing or even recognizing their dysfunctional attitudes and behaviors around food. And so, they don’t lose weight. Does that sound like you at all?
Usually this resistance isn’t conscious. Rather it is the result of old ingrained patterns and beliefs that lurk in the subconscious mind, and destroy even the best intentions you may have to get thin. In order to move past all this and finally get yourself to take the actions you need, it’s vital to change this limiting mindset. But how do you do that?
While there are many ways to go about changing old beliefs and allow yourself to lose weight (such as therapy, hypnosis etc), one of the easiest, least expensive and most effective is to use brainwave entrainment.
What’s Brainwave Entrainment?
Simply put, brainwave entrainment involves exposing the brain to a rhythmic stimulus of a frequency that is similar to the brain’s own natural frequency range. Sound or light pulses are often used, or a combination of the two. The brain has a natural tendency (known as the ‘frequency following response’) to synchronize with, or ‘entrain’ to the external rhythm.
Since brainwaves of specific frequency ranges are associated with particular states of consciousness, using brainwave entrainment may help you to access different states of consciousness relatively easily, by changing the frequency of the stimulus.
Sound recordings are a popular and effective way to use brainwave synchronization at home. They fall into three categories: binaural beats, monaural beats, and isochronic tones. These all work slightly differently but all cause the brain to entrain to the frequencies that have been specially embedded in the recording. Although all are very effective, many people prefer to use isochronic tones since these seem to work more efficiently. Using Brainwave Synchronization For Weight Loss
Brainwave entrainment recordings such as isochronic tones may help people to deal with the psychological issues that so often sabotage their weight loss efforts. By using a recording that is specially designed for the purpose, you can access those states of mind in which it is easy to focus on what is wanted, and to see yourself taking all the necessary actions, and allowing yourself to succeed.
By gaining access to your subconscious mind in this way, and bypassing the negative beliefs you may have, you can change your self-image and also benefit from the natural feelings of positivity and inspiration that are associated with these ‘deeper’ states. It will then become easier to follow through with a healthier lifestyle, as you won’t constantly be getting in your own way.
Imagine how much more enjoyable life will be when you’re not constantly battling against food cravings and you actually want to exercise regularly! Weight loss really can be effortless when your mind is working in harmony work with your body like this.
If you decide to use brain wave entrainment to help you lose weight for good, make sure you choose a high quality recording that you enjoy listening to. I really like the meditation recordings from The Meditation Club. They do also have a special weight loss section, although I haven’t used these myself. All recordings are fully guaranteed, and binaural, monaural and isochronic versions are available. You can also download some tracks for free.
